Azeez Obitayo was expecting to have a normal day as he went to sit outside on his stoop. Little did he know, he would become a hero soon enough.
He noticed a random man walking nearby, acting a bit peculiar.
"When I saw him, there was something suspicious about him," Azeez recalls in the video below, posted on February 27, 2017. "So I was like, 'There is something wrong about this man.'"
Azeez stuck with his hunch and watched the stranger a bit longer. Then he saw the man do the unthinkable.
The man walked into a neighbor's yard and plucked a bright blue bike off the property. He started running with the blue bike as fast as he could. Azeez saw it all and quickly jumped into action.
"He started running with the bike. I went to start to drive my wife's car. I made a U-turn and started chasing him all the — close to the park," Azeez explains.
It was in that park that Azeez received a few scratches. He says, "I got a lot of cuts," referring to the woodsy area the alleged bike thief had run to in order to hide.
Soon, police were on the scene and located the man who had taken the bike after he had essentially cornered himself in the woods. The blue bike was returned to Azeez's neighbor, James Lomax, who was surprised to hear that the bike had been stolen at all.
"I didn't know it had so much value to someone else, but I really appreciate neighbors looking out," his neighbor explains. "You don't really see that much anymore."
