On Saturday, December 10, 2016, Damian Tilley was walking home in his hometown of Lake Los Angeles, California. Although Lake Los Angeles is located in southern California, Damian remembers that it was rather chilly that night.
Damian had spent all day applying for jobs, and was finally on his way home when he heard a noise that startled him. He heard dogs barking and then a baby crying, which grabbed his attention.
Then he noticed a shivering baby alone in a carseat. "It was pretty cold," Damian told CBS Los Angeles, "I mean, the baby was cold. It was flushed red, it was out there for like, an hour total."
Damian yelled out for help for twenty minutes, trying to get the attention of whoever was inside the house. After nobody responded, Damian called the police.
"This is a pretty mountain area, so I mean, there's coyotes, mountain lions, all sorts of things here, bobcats; it's pretty rough terrain," Damian said.
Police say that the father was, in fact, home with three other children, all under the age of four. Once police arrived at the home, they say they saw animal feces and cockroaches on the ground, and determined that it was not a safe environment for the children.
Child Protective Services picked up the four children, including the two-month-old baby, and all are currently in protective custody, according to police officials. Deputies say that the father has been put in jail on child endangerment charges.
This little baby is so lucky to be safe, and if it wasn't for the help of this good samaritan, who knows what might have happened to her.
