Here in the United States, parents are fortunate to have a lot of options when they don’t want to or can’t care for their children.
Adoption stories like this one are truly amazing, but you never hear about them in places like Seoul, South Korea, where hundreds of babies are abandoned, left for dead, and even murdered by their parents. While this heart-wrenching epidemic seems to get worse each year, one man is on a crusade to save these unwanted children. Pastor Lee Jong-Rak is a simple man who saw the devastating problem and knew there had to be a better way. The Pastor is the creator of the “Baby Box,” and when you hear his touching story, you will never be the same again.
He created the Baby Box as a way for parents to leave their unwanted newborns in an anonymous way and guarantee their survival, unlike what this cruel person did to their newborn. A person simply opens the box, which is attached to the Pastor’s church, and leaves their baby inside. One young mother left a tragic note with her baby saying things like “I leave you here, because I don’t know who your father is. I used to think about something bad, but I guess this box is safer for you. That’s why I decided to leave you here. My son, Please forgive me.”
As you can see, many of the women who leave their babies here want their children to grow up with a better life. A young documentary filmmaker named Brian Ivie heard about the Pastor’s story, which inspired him to make a touching film called The Drop Box.
