Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me, and this video is truly an incredible sight. While at the Kruger National Park in South Africa, a group of visitors stopped in their tracks when they saw what looked like a mother elephant standing next to her deceased baby. About 45 seconds into the video we see the calf alive, but barely breathing if at all. My heart broke for the lifeless little elephant in the grass.
But just as it seems like tragedy has struck, the mother elephant calmly walks to her calf's side. She stands over the calf, nudging at it with her trunk and and providing a gentle push. Onlookers are astonished to watch as baby stands up, as if this precious angel comes back to life before their very eyes.
As the filming continues, the woman behind the camera gets more and more emotional. I would be too, if something so raw and breathtaking happened right in front of me! Of course, many YouTube commenters are quick to point out that the calf was probably born not long before these tourists came by, and was taking a much-needed nap in the grass before Mom wakes him to continue their first day in the wild as mother and baby 🙂
