Parents Are In Awe When They Discover Feather Lodged In Baby Girl’s Cheek

While Aaron Whittington was away at work, his wife Emma noticed that their 7-month-old Mya was irritable. For the past few weeks, she had been pulling at the area under her left ear. The new parents assumed she was maybe teething or getting an ear infection. When Mya's neck started to swell, Emma brought her to the emergency room.

"I was at work and my wife noticed that the left side of her neck had started to swell, and she called me at work and asked if we should take her to the emergency room," Aaron told ABC's Christina NG. They decided to wait. Maybe it was just a swollen gland, but then things got strange. "Sunday morning, when we woke up, it had doubled in size and there was a pimple-looking thing on the end of it."

Doctors thought maybe she had a staph infection, but when they drained the bump, nothing came out. Then all of a sudden something began poking out of the swollen area, like a string or stick.

"[The pediatrician] threw on gloves and she pulled out a two-inch feather and she's like, 'It's a feather.'" Aaron said. A feather! No one quite knows how it got in there, but doctors say she may have swallowed or inhaled it. Chances are  that it was in there for months and the body began to reject it. Little Mya healed completely on her own. As for other parents out there, if you have down jackets or pillows, you might want to pay a little closer attention to where those feathers land!
