Divan Grobler discovered a newborn baby rhino alongside the road. The baby boy was only a few hours old and malnourished. Grobler waited hours with the baby for his mother to come back, but she didn't. The mother had accidentally abandoned her son. Another baby rhino was in the area and she mistook it for her own, leaving her biological son helpless in the wild.
Thankfully, Grobler worked for the Aquila Rescue Center and his team have developed an 18-month plan to nurture the baby until he is ready to be re-introduced into the wild.
Caring for the rhino baby isn't all too different than caring for a human one. The little guy needs to be bottle-fed every two hours. Now just a couple of weeks old, he needs plenty of playtime — as you'll see in the video. The baby rhino loves charging at Grobler, not with hostility, but with a whole lot of love.
Watch as he nuzzles at Grobler, his surrogate daddy, and plays with him in the mud. The Aquila team will teach the little guy how to graze so that he can eventually fend for himself out in the wild. This just goes to show, animals and humans need each other, it's why we were put on this earth together after all!
