It's every mother's worst nightmare. Kerry Vickers was driving when she turned around and realized that her 15-week-old infant was not breathing.
She flagged down air traffic control worker Ian Phillips, who was driving to work at the time, not knowing that he would end up saving the newborn's life. "When I saw the baby she was completely blue and lifeless," Phillips said of the baby, who was later diagnosed as suffering from viral meningitis.
He tried mouth-to-mouth, but was afraid he would hurt the baby's lungs. Next he tried CPR using two fingers, that's when the miracle happened. Milk shot out of the baby's nose and she started coughing, taking short breaths and then started to cry, It was the best sound in the world. It was fantastic.
In this touching video, the baby, Poppy Jane, and her mother meet their hero, Warrant Officer Phillips. "Thank you doesn’t come close to how we feel about what Ian did for us. No words can ever explain how grateful we are." Vickers said.
I'm so thankful the lifesaver was in the right place at the right time. There's no doubt that he is the reason the baby is alive today.
