Growing up surrounded by several Native American cultures, I have always viewed owls as spooky omens of evil and death. According to the lore of many tribes, the nocturnal birds represent the angry spirits of those who have passed away. I remember being terrified as a child thinking one might swoop down and whisk me away from my family! Of course, that was likely a clever way parents made sure their kids weren't staying outdoors too late at night, but the beady-eyed birds really sold the story with their screeching calls when the sun went down.
Now that I'm older, I've learned that owls can actually be pretty darn adorable. I'm still a little wary, but seeing cases like the cutie who befriended a kitten at a Japanese coffee shop or the handsome fella who was nursed back to health have definitely made most of my fears melt away. The same goes for the beautiful girls featured in the video below.
Their names are Luna and Lily, and they have been taken care of since birth by seasoned bird handlers Lloyd and Rose Buck. The couple treats the youngsters like their own children as they watch them grow out of their downy feathers and begin learning how to fly. Luna is a bit more advanced than her sister as she takes her first leap of faith while Rose tries to weigh her one afternoon.
Take a look at the cuties progress in the video to see when Luna takes her new talent for flying into the home at bedtime.
