Two students at George Mason University have invented something that could really make a difference in saving lives, and in the coolest possible way. Engineering seniors Viet Tran and Seth Robertson have invented a fire extinguisher that will eliminate fires with bass frequencies. With sonic noise!
Adding to the growing list of other revolutionary inventions that will undoubtedly improve lives — like this one that helps a blind woman see, or this one that’ll help the disabled — the product is gaining some headway for its ingenuity.
“Viet Tran and Seth Robertson's new fire extinguisher looks a little like a conventional one, but instead of a compressed air tank spewing out chemicals, theirs has a loudspeaker the size of subwoofer drumming out sound waves,” reports CNN. “It's not much to listen to, just a low hum, but when pointed at flames, it makes them vanish.” The flames vanish!
This could save countless lives, they say, as the frequency extinguishers are far safer than other chemicals presently used. According to the video’s description, the students “now hold a preliminary patent application for their potentially revolutionizing device.”
