The Beach Boys Perform Their Christmas Classic ‘Little Saint Nick’ In 1964

The Beach Boys are famous for bringing "surf rock" to the world with their iconic pop tunes throughout the 1960s. You can practically hear the waves coming from every twang of their guitar. The band was rooted in family, founded by brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and rounded out with good friend Al Jardine. While that might have led to some rocky tension between the members while their fame continued to grow, it didn't stop them from topping the charts with hit after hit as the years went on.

Even when they provided us with one of the ultimate Christmas classics, "Little Saint Nick," they did so in their own unique style. Unlike many of the other Yuletide melodies we're used to hearing, this one has the boys' carefree energy all over it. Co-written by Brian and Love, the lyrics don't describe Santa Claus quite like traditional portly fella one might expect to see shooting down their chimney on Christmas Eve. Instead, they paint a new picture of a hip Saint Nick who's "haulin' through the snow at a frightening speed," an homage to the popularity of street racing and car cruising of the era.

Hey, it makes sense if he's going to make it to every little kid's house in one night! I always make sure to give this fun song a play at my festive get-togethers. It's the perfect addition to any holiday playlist, especially if you feel like dancing your way into the holiday season.
