These Heroes Went Undercover To Save This Baby From Poachers — I’m Floored!

Animal rescue is one of the most important and noble professions out there.

Unfortunately, many abused or neglected animals are in need of rescuing. But the lucky ones are the animals who are able to find their way into some kind of sanctuary where they have trained professionals to care for them. While we often think about rescue dogs and cats who later go on to find a good home, there are also plenty of wild animals in need of saving.

Elvis is a young bear cub who was discovered in a small town in India near the border to Nepal. Elvis was only 8 weeks old when he was being abused and held captive by poachers hoping to smuggle him into Nepal. Fortunately for him, an undercover team of animal rescue workers known as Wildlife SOS was able to step in and change everything.

This story of Elvis' rescue and recovery makes me have even greater respect for those who work tirelessly to save helpless animals.

Elvis was being held captive by poachers who had pierced his nose with a needle and broken his teeth with a metal rod. This image of Elvis is graphic, but you can click it if you would like to see how the rescuers found him.

When the undercover rescue team arrived, Elvis was tied to a tree and shaking with fear. He was quickly rushed to a vet, where he was examined and found to be "badly traumatized and in terrible pain."

Fortunately, Elvis was in good hands with the International Animal Rescue at a care facility known as Agra Bear Sanctuary. Though he was starving and dehydrated, he was quickly given food and water and began to show signs of improvement.

The International Animal Rescue writes on their website: "Thanks to the brave action of the rescue team and members of the Forestry Department in Uttar Pradesh, this little bear's life has been spared and he is safe in the care of the vets in Agra." Elvis is already doing much better!

While Elvis and the bears at Agra Bear Sanctuary are lucky, many other wild bears are not. This image is another graphic photo of a bear found chained up by poachers, but you can click if you would like to see how they were found.

The International Animal Rescue wants to share Elvis' story to create awareness about a grave problem with bears and poachers. "Elvis' story is new evidence that the threat to Indian sloth bears is as real and as great as ever. We will work with the Forest Police to try to catch the poachers and bring them to justice."

Thanks to these brave souls with the animal rescue, Elvis and bears just like him have a safe place to live and be cared for while interacting with other cubs just like them. Elvis is doing just fine now with his new friends at the sanctuary. These rescue
