After the Beatles played Shea Stadium in New York on August 15, 1965, the gig went down in history as one of the greatest rock'n'roll concerts of all time.
They performed in front of 55,600 people at the New York stadium, more than has ever attended a rock concert at the time. The tickets were priced at $4.50, $5.00 and $5.65, and thousands of screaming fans packed the stadium to see the famed British band. With the fans fenced in to protect both the band and the infield grass, the Beatles took the stage for a legendary concert.
The Beatles performed a 30-minute set of 12 songs which included several hits: "Twist And Shout," "Can't Buy Me Love," "A Hard Day's Night," and "Help!"
According to UltimateClassicRock.com, John Lennon goofed off during the concert. Because the stage was so far away from the audience, he talked nonsense and even had a strange way of playing his instruments.
"I feel that on that show John cracked up," Starr allegedly said after the show. "He went mad; not mentally ill, but he just got crazy. He was playing the piano with his elbows and it was really strange."
"George couldn’t play for laughing," Lennon said in 1965. "I was doing it for a laugh. The kids didn’t know what I was doing."
It’s been over 50 years since The Beatles' Shea Stadium performance, but that doesn't mean that Beatlemania isn't still alive all around the globe.
