If you’re tired of making the same old birthday cake every year, this next recipe is for you. The Beautiful Rose Cake is a jaw-dropping confection of epic proportion. I’ll admit it's a little intimidating for a first-timer, but I promise that the finished product is not only gorgeous and gigantic — it's delicious, too.
In honor of her daughter's birthday, baking guru Vanessa of Cake Style is here to demonstrate how to whip up the whimsical sculpted rose cake. It's incredible to watch her create the super-sized flower using layers of vanilla cake, bright and colorful buttercream frosting, and modeling chocolate. Seriously, who wouldn't love to be served a cake like this?!
Most people assume the Rose Cake requires fondant pedals, but instead, Vanessa uses modeling chocolate. She says, "Fondant would have to have padding to support for the better part of a day, and the petals on the last row, could easily droop or break." Personally, I just think modeling chocolate tastes better, as it's much sweeter than traditional fondant.
