To watch a daughter honor her sick mother, or any other expression of kindness, really brings me in touch with the gratitude I have toward my own parents.
So when I found this powerful story of why one beauty queen from Thailand was bowing to a garbage collector, I was nearly brought to tears.
Khanittha "Mint" Phasaeng, a 17-year-old from Thailand, was totally overjoyed when she found out she won the 2015 title of Miss Uncensored News Thailand.
And what was the first thing she wanted to do to celebrate? She ran and bowed before a garbage collector. The reason why truly is inspirational.

By a stroke of luck, Mint was asked to join the pageant, but she had no idea that she'd actually win. She told the People's Daily, "When the referee announced the winner, it felt like a dream. I thought, 'How can an ordinary girl like me be a beauty queen?'"
The young beauty queen had been helping her mother, who works as a garbage collector, sort through trash for her entire childhood. And according to DramaFever News, Mint has never felt embarrassed. "What I have today is because of my mother. She and I make a living by doing honest work, so there is no reason why I should feel inferior."
Immediately upon winning, Mint ran home to thank her mother. Still wearing her crown, sash, and heels, Mint knelt before her mom — the highest form of honoring another person.
"All I have accomplished today is because of my mother's hard work," Mint continued. According to the Bangkok Post, Mint's mother separated from her father when she was young, but has since remarried.
After winning first place, Mint is getting advertising, film and television work, which she hopes will help lift her family out of poverty.
But she continues to maintain a strong connection with her humble background and credits all of her success to it.
The story of Mint and her family's struggle serve as true inspiration to those around the world building a better life for their own children. Mint will absolutely never forget her mother or where she came from.
