2 Sisters Are Opening The Doors Of Their Beauty Salon To Benefit Cancer Patients

Two sisters, Cynthia Sansone and Rachel DeMolfetto, own a beauty salon in Long Island, NY. It's called Racine. Every Monday, once a month like clockwork, they open their doors to any and all cancer patients — free of charge.

In this trailer for the documentary, Mondays at Racine, the filmmakers ask: "When your life is at stake, why is losing your hair so hard?"

As it turns out, this isn't an easy question to answer.

"It's like your hair is part of your identity, and you feel like you're being erased," one woman says, while yet another customer confirms that her "lack of hair makes [her] feel invisible."

These are utterly heartbreaking personal stories, but it soon becomes clear just where the heart of his documentary lies — in the incredible kindness and selflessness of these two sisters, and the countless lives they’re touching every month.

It reminds me of the women who surprised their friend when they all buzzed their hair off to surprise and support her cancer battle. There was also that teenage boy who came up with an ingenious idea after his mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.

"There is a beauty that can come out," says another woman, and the smiling faces of so many women are visible toward the end of this trailer. "That's what everybody needs to know — that's what the world needs to know."
