Unless you’ve been deliberately avoiding all forms of media for the past three years, you probably know that there’s a new Star Wars movie premiering this week.
In fact, not only is the epic "space opera" franchise getting another installment, its release is finally here! Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in theaters Friday, December 18.
Understandably, there’s a lot of excitement around the new release, and we are waiting anxiously for our own turn to queue up and see the newest episode in action!
But of course, it’s hard to know how it will hold up to the originals…
After all, we’re talking about a franchise so expansive, so beloved, and so nostalgic for viewers of all ages that it’s prompted the creation of everything from a beloved series of novels to this insane a capella medley of its iconic musical score!
With that in mind, we thought that this was the perfect time to take a walk down memory lane, and look back through some of the amazing behind-the scenes photos captured on the set of the original trilogy, many of which have surfaced thanks to "Chewbacca" actor Peter Mayhew, who releases archival photos on his Twitter from time to time.
