When we look back at fashion, probably the worst era in recent history was the 1970s. No decade's fashion has ever been ridiculed to the extent of the '70s, whether it was due to the over-acceptance of crochet and denim, the horrifying results of self-expression and risk taking, or the unflattering tight-fitting pants of the time that make the skinny jeans of today look like sweatpants. There really wasn't a whole lot concealing what lay beneath.
Sure, the '80s had a lot of fluorescent pinks and yellows, while the '90s brought us oversized, baggy clothing, but the '70s were a special time when pretty much everything was taken to the extreme.
So let's travel back in time and pay a visit to the land before style, and revisit some of the best fashion ads of the 1970s. Take caution and heed this warning: Fashion is cyclical, what goes around comes around, but there comes a time when we need to learn from our mistakes.
