Cyclist Survives A Close Brush With An SUV At An Unmarked Intersection

Riding a bike around town or to work is a really wonderful alternative to driving a car. It's much kinder to the environment, and it gives your heart and your muscles a little workout that will keep you stronger for longer.

However, you must be extra careful on the road as a cyclist. You should always wear your helmet. Even if you're only going a couple of blocks away, you never know what will be around a familiar corner. It seems like nothing will ever happen to you, but trust me, it can happen to anyone.

My own father had a very scary bike accident just last year. He was riding his bike from his office to his classroom, when, all of a sudden, a car door swung open in front of him. I got a call from my mother, who was hesitant to answer when I asked if he was going to be OK. After a few days in the hospital, and after many doctors and surgeons telling us how incredibly lucky my dad was to be alive, he was able to come home.

Again, this could happen to literally anyone, so you have to be careful, even if you're riding on familiar streets. It's also crucial to be aware of cyclists when behind the wheel. It's a two-way street!

When this cyclist was riding towards and unmarked intersection, he had no idea that there was an SUV speeding in on his right. At the very last second?

My heart skipped a beat.
