Whitney Meyer and her husband, Tomas Dean, could not believe it. The couple was expecting twin girls, though not ones quite like this: The precious babies clearly resembled each other, yet they had different skin tones.
The odds of this happening are around one in 500 among fraternal twins, and one in a million among all twins — meaning the family hit the jackpot.
Kalani and Jarani Dean were born on April 23, 2016. When mom and dad saw their cute little faces, they were shocked by each twin's distinct set of features.

While the girls look alike in many ways, the fraternal twins also have some distinctly different features.
Kalani has fair skin and blue eyes like her mother, while Jarani has brown skin and brown eyes like her father.
The sibling are known as rare biracial twins.
"At first when they were born, I wanted to believe it but it's so rare I didn't think it'd happen to my twins! But sure enough, they're biracial twins!" Whitney told KHOA.
Biracial twins occur when two separate sperm cells fertilize two different eggs. While a few genes are responsible for skin color, the odds of having biracial twins remain very low.
The Quincy, Illinois, family is sharing photos of the special little girls, who are now 9 months old.
