Birth and the miracle of a new life is supposed to be a happy time filled with overwhelming emotions of joy and love, but sadly, not every birth has a happy ending.
Thirty-year-old musician, Chris Picco, recently experienced tragic loss on a day that was supposed to be so joyful.
His wife Ashley perished in childbirth…and shortly after, her newborn son, Lennon James Picco, died at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital in California following an emergency C-section performed when Ashley was just 24-weeks pregnant.
The heartbroken husband and father was captured on film playing guitar and singing "Blackbird" by The Beatles while staying by his Lennon's side in his final moments, and the video soon went viral, triggering an outpouring of love and support from people all over the world after the Loma Linda University Church and Garden Pediatrics created a memorial fund for the Picco family in their honor.
It's absolutely incredible what Chris managed to do for his son even in the wake of such a terrible tragedy.

All funds raised will help Chris his family face fewer financial hardships and challenges in the time to come.

During her pregnancy, Ashley would often feel Lennon moving to music, so after she died, Chris asked if he could go into the NICU and play for his son one last time.

Ashley said in a statement that his son Lennon was his "little fighter," and that in his final moments while wearing an outfit Ashley had picked for him, he was "surrounded by family, friends, and the best doctors, nurses and hospital staff in the world."
