A Georgia man named Blake Alford was given no choice but to turn himself in when he boarded a flight to Chicago with something the TSA should have caught on their own. The retired truck driver accidentally boarded the plane with a loaded firearm.
He wasn't testing the TSA, he didn't mean to bring it aboard the flight, but with so many "safety precautions" in place, it shouldn't have been an issue, according to Blake. Sometimes the TSA just gets it wrong, like when they were caught harassing a Marine and his son.
"If they'll take toothpaste, they'll make people get out of wheelchairs. They'll make me take off my belt buckle. My shoes. How did my gun get through?" is what Blake wants to know. The gun was still completely loaded. If his backpack was mishandled, without anyone knowing there was a firearm inside, who knows what could have happened.
"I said, and it's loaded," Alford confirmed. "I had a loaded .380 semiautomatic in my backpack."
He said he went through the security scanner with his backpack with no issues whatsoever. Blake didn't even realize he had gotten the gun through until he began to unpack in Chicago. Unsure of what to do, he turned himself in.
"I just want to do the right thing. I don't want to get in trouble. I don't want to get anybody in trouble. I just wanted everybody to realize we need to tighten up," he said. Brad isn't facing any consequences and the TSA is currently investigating the situation to make sure no employees broke protocol.
