What would you do if you saw a stranger asking for a hug on the street? Would you be one of the people who walks past or stops to interact?
Jasirah — who is part of Australia’s Aboriginal population — decided to put others to the test in a special experiment called the “Blind Trust Experiment.”
Like previous social experiments, including the one that sees who would help a lost child, the one below also has a surprising outcome.
The woman walks on to a beach and places a blindfold over her eyes. She has a sign that reads, “I trust you, do you trust me?” with hopes that people will give her a hug.
Now when LittleThings went around New York City offering free hugs to strangers, our friendly models received mostly positive responses. I was hoping the woman below would get the same treatment — and I'm so glad she did.
While many walked by her in disbelief as expected, others stopped to do as she asked. Some even offered some friendly words, like the woman who said, "You're a great hugger, by the way."
And just wait till you see who approaches Jasirah during the beautiful moment at 1:46 mark.
