Blind Son Leaves Mom Speechless When He Sees Her For The First Time

Christopher Ward was born with optic nerve hypoplasia. The condition means that his optic nerve didn't develop before birth, thus Christopher was born blind. He can see a little light in his left eye and has some low vision in his right eye, but an object would have to be so close to the eye that it would be practically touching the iris for it to register at all. However, a recent technology called eSight is giving 12-year-old Christopher and his mother, Marquita, some hope.

In the video below, Christopher wears these special eSight glasses, and for the first time he was able to see his mom. The first thing he says? "She's pretty!" Marquita was left in tears and overwhelmed with emotion, not only because her son was happy to see her, but because he could see at all. The technology costs a whopping $15,000, but fortunately the community is rallying around the family to help pay for the glasses.

"The very first thing he did was turn to me and say, 'Oh, Mommy! There you are!" Marquita told ABC News. "And then to hear him say, 'I saw my mom, and she was very pretty,' was so heartwarming. And aside from pretty, just the fact he could even see me meant the whole world to me."
