"I woke up with a chill down my spine and grinding my teeth," the mother said, reported The London Free Press. "Like a swirl of cold air surrounding my body. I told her, '[Anna] it’s time to come out. We’re waiting for you.'" Just hours later, police were at the door of Karen's apartment. She knew then and there that her daughter's body had been found. "They said they had news, and my heart was racing. They found her."
The girl had been swept away into the river on Thursday, August 1, 2024, while she, her mother, and two other siblings were preparing to leave from playing in the water. "When their feet touched the water, they were just happy little kids in front of me playing. Then I said, after a few minutes – I said, 'It’s time’s up, guys. Let’s go back,'" the mother explained.
Anna, however, pleaded for a few more minutes, so Karen let her continue to play while she gathered the other children. Upon turning back around, her daughter had been swept into the river and was being carried away. In every effort, the mother tried desperately to save her daughter.
