I think that we all love to see people doing good deeds in their own communities.
After all, it’s wonderful and admirable to put your energy toward solving problems that are far afield or widespread.
But there’s something special about being willing to look at your own hometown and think about what you can do on a local scale, as we saw with this Boston cop helping an exhausted runner finish the city’s marathon.
At the end of the day, the world is big and full of problems you can’t solve, but your own community has problems of its own that you just might be able to fix by paying attention and stepping up!
That’s exactly what a crew of firefighters did recently in Borger, TX, in a heartwarming act of kindness that has reverberated around the internet, and brought attention to a sweet group of men just trying to do their bit to help.
Like all great acts of kindness, it started with an open-hearted offer of help, even though none was requested.

It all started when an 81-year-old local man in the small Texas city decided to get outside on a beautiful sunny day to mow his lawn.
He knew better than to overexert himself in the heat, but thought he would be just fine on his ride-along mower.
Unfortunately, he slightly overestimated the toll that the work and the hot day would take on his body.
He tells ABC that he has some circulation problems, which came to a head when he “backed into a barrel.”
He fell off the mower, and his wife immediately called 911 for help.
Emergency crews, including local firefighters, showed up at the house as quickly as possible.
They checked out their patient, and were able to give him a clean bill of health, with a prescription to rest, drink water, and stay out of the heat.
Naturally, the first responders were relieved to be able to offer reassurance to the couple, but they couldn’t help but notice that their patient hadn’t been able to mow the whole backyard before falling off the mower.
Then, they realized that the front was never mowed at all and was looking overgrown.
They couldn’t just leave the grass looking like that, not when someone had nearly put himself in the hospital trying to get the job done.
With the OK of Shift Captain Shawn Burleson, the crew decided that they were going to take care of the problem then and there, and make sure the lawn was clean as a whistle.
They stuck around and detailed the whole lawn, front and back.
At first, neighbors were worried when they saw the emergency vehicles parked outside, but when the crew explained what they were up to, it quickly became clear to everyone that Borger is home to some very kind and impressive young men that any town would be proud to call their own!
