Watching This Guy Beat Up A Robot Is Both Really Cool And Really Sad

Sci-fi movies have long depicted robots as walking, talking "creatures" that can interact with humans and their environment, but until recently, our real-life robots have looked more at-home working in factories than in a futuristic setting. But an incredible company called Boston Dynamics is changing that. Their high-tech robots can walk, run, and even catch their balance. And their latest model is so human-like, it's actually a bit creepy.

Robot technology has come ridiculously far in the past few years, and while it's only natural to hope that a real-life C-3PO is soon on the horizon, the most recent developments are way more than just cool — they're transforming people's lives. This little girl was finally able to use her right hand to throw the first pitch at a baseball game thanks to the help of her 3D-printed robotic hand, and it's only the tip of the iceberg in regards to what this kind of technology can do for people in need.

Boston Dynamics' robots have been used in the military to carry heavy loads and make Marines' lives a bit easier, and there's no telling how these machines will improve our future. Many of their creations crawl on four "legs," but one of their models, named Atlas, is distinctly humanoid. We've shown you Atlas at work before, but recently, they've updated him to have even more capabilities and better functionality.

The new and improved Atlas actually looks so human at times, you're actually probably going to feel bad for him when a real human starts picking on him. I never thought I'd feel bad for a robot, but I couldn't help but say, "Stop it, jerk!" to my screen when I saw what this Boston Dynamics employee started doing to Atlas. And yet, the way this robot responds to being bullied is utterly fascinating.

Boston Dynamics has created a wide range of robots that possess a wide range of capabilities.

Their most human-like model, Atlas, can walk around on two legs just like you do!

He can pick up boxes...

...and put them on shelves.

This is a robot that loves his job as much as a robot could.

So it's pretty stinkin' rude of this guy to come in and swat Atlas' box right out of his hands.

But this jerk doesn't stop there. He then proceeds to push this hardworking robot backward.

And because that wasn't enough cruelty for one poor robot to handle, he then swipes the box out of Atlas' reach.

To add injury to insult, he then comes up behind Atlas and pushes him right over.

Is it normal to be super-sad for a bullied robot? Because I definitely am.

Don't worry, though; Atlas is perfectly capable of picking himself right back up.

When robots eventually take over the world, no one will be surprised to find this guy at the head of the revolution.
