It was March 3, 2009, when Robby Smith almost lost his life one month before he turned two.
The young boy had fallen into a shallow creek after wanting to grab a pitchfork. His older sister was there and watched in horror.
Passersby pulled little Robby out of the creek and got the attention of firefighters driving by. They ended up saving his life, much like the ones who saved a 3-week-old from a burning building.
Firefighter Karl Bentley with the West Metro Fire Rescue in Lakewood, CO, recalls that day very well. He told CBS Denver that the toddler was "slippery, cold, wet." Little Robby also wasn't breathing, but was eventually resuscitated with CPR.
"I knew that it was hard for them to find a baby in that condition," Robby's mother, Chris Smith, told the news station. "And then actually bring him back to life, because they did they brought him back to life."
It may have been almost a decade, but Robby, now 8, wanted to thank the firefighters who saved his life as a baby. We see him get that chance in the heartwarming video below, which also shows his older sister breaking down in their arms.
