Police Believe British Nurse Accused Of Killing Babies Confessed To The Murders In A Note

Lucy Letby is a former nurse who is on trial for the deaths of at least seven babies, who all died while under her care. Letby, 32, reportedly carried out the murders while employed at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Authorities recently presented the jury with evidence that they believe indicates Letby intentionally killed each of the babies. The evidence in question is a note written by Letby herself.

Letby wrote in the note, "I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough to care for them … I will never have children or marry. I will never know what it’s like to have a family."

She continued, "I am a horrible evil person," and added, "I AM EVIL I DID THIS."

Letby is also accused of attempting to kill at least 10 other babies.

Letby reportedly used a variety of ways to try to kill the babies — including injecting them with insulin, milk, or air — between June 2015 and June 2016. She has denied all charges against her.

A doctor began to put two and two together and ultimately suspected Letby of the crimes. She was let go from the hospital approximately four months after the doctor began to study her patterns and movements.

Letby's lawyer, Benjamin Myers KC, has offered an alternative explanation for the notes found by police. Myers told the jury the notes represent the "anguished outpouring of a young woman in fear and despair when she realises the enormity of what is being said about her and this is her way of expressing it in the moment to herself."

He continued, "This note reflects the anguished state of mind Miss Letby found herself in and what she felt when she was learned of how she was accused of killing children she had done her best to care for. What you see there is anguish not guilt."

Myers has also claimed the hospital has no direct evidence of Letby's involvement and that it is instead "driven by the assumption that someone was doing deliberate harm … combined with the coincidence on certain occasions of Miss Letby’s presence."
