When you live in Upstate New York, you know you're in for a rough winter. Even with the all-time highs we've had throughout the country, cities like Buffalo, NY, are still getting hit pretty hard by the chill coming in off of Lake Erie.
One member of the community left his car parked right off of the major roadway, Route 5. The road, which runs near the Great Lake in some sections, was kept open despite icy conditions… but when this person returned to move his car? It became immediately clear that that was going to be impossible.
The whole left side of the car was covered in ice. We're not just talking a thin layer of ice that's annoying to scrape off of the windshield in the morning. We're talking inches of ice that have accumulated and encased the entire driver's side of the car in impenetrable ice. How did this happen? The 47 mph winds coming off the lake splashed the water up and onto the road, which immediately covered everything in ice in the subzero temperatures.
Here is WKBW reporter Linzie Janis reporting next to the "carcicle."

It just kept getting worse and worse!

You can see the ice continued to accumulate, burying the wheels deeper in their frozen casing.

Here's a closeup of just how insane the accumulation was. Lesson learned!
