Just when you thought the worst thing about riding a bus was sitting next to someone who forgot to put deodorant on, someone filmed the video below and reminded you that things could be much, much worse.
Recent flooding in the state of Para, Brazil has led to less-than-ideal driving conditions. One bus was stopped after getting stuck on a dirt road, leaving the passengers no choice but to disembark. Not long after the last person exited the vehicle, a giant sinkhole opened up in the ground and swallowed the bus whole. It then traveled down the river that flows beneath the road while the stunned (and probably terrified) observers and former passengers looked on. I've seen other sinkholes before, like this one that made two people disappear in the blink of an eye, but the sheer size of this one blew my mind!
I'm really glad that the passengers made it out in time. Being trapped in a submerged vehicle is no joke, just as this guy learned when he tried to drive his Jeep though a massive "puddle." Can you imagine how you'd feel if the bus you were just riding on disappeared through a giant hole in the ground and was taken away by a river? I'd probably never use public transportation again! I'm glad this story has a happy ending — everyone got out safe and sound, and the bus finally got to fulfill its dream of becoming a boat.
