When you join a band, whether it's you and few friends in your garage or a massive marching band at school, you not only dedicate yourself to mastering the instrument of your choice, but to support your fellow musicians as well. I don't just mean by harmonizing your sound with theirs, but forming a connection and kinship with those standing by your side. Considering the amount of rigorous practice it takes to get a handle on your instrument, each new song and adapting to various venues, it's not all that surprising that the bond between the talented players becomes one of the strongest a person can experience.
That is exactly what was on bittersweet display when alumni of the Calgary Stampede Showband scattered themselves throughout a church in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada on November 13, 2015. The group performed "Motion Picture Soundtrack" by Radiohead, a tune they have traditionally played over the past 10 years to welcome new members and to thank past and present members for their dedication to the organization.
For this rendition, however, the brass band is paying tribute to one of their fallen bandmates. Mackenzie May passed away suddenly at just 23 years old, leaving behind several devastated family members and friends. Loved ones describe May as "always smiling and always upbeat," with a big personality to match his massive passion for music.
As they perform the haunting melody in May's honor, you can see how difficult it is for them to fight back their emotions for their friend.
Please be sure to SHARE this beautiful homage with your friends and family.
