In an extraordinarily rare occurrence, a set of California twins were just born in different years!
On Friday evening, mom Fatima Madrigal and dad Robert Trujillo welcomed their son Alfredo. He arrived on New Year's Eve at 11:45 p.m. About 15 minutes later, his little sister arrived. Baby Aylin was born at exactly midnight, making her birthday the following day.
Aylin weighed in at 5 lbs., 14 oz., while Alfredo weighed 6 lbs., 1 oz.
While twins having different birthdays can happen from time to time, being born in completely different years is extremely rare. Of course, it's simply stunning to the mother of the babies. "It's crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays," she said. "I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight."
It was also a thrill for the doctor who delivered the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day twins. Dr. Ana Abril Arias, a family doctor at the Natividad Medical Group, said, "This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career."
"It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022," the doctor added. "What an amazing way to start the New Year!"
The hospital shared adorable images of the babies on social media, writing, "Baby Aylin Yolanda Trujillo was born exactly at midnight in 2022, but get this: Her twin brother, Alfredo Antonio Trujillo, was born 15 minutes before in 2021!"
Alfredo and Aylin join a big family. They have three older siblings — two sisters and a brother. The twins' mom says that the children can't wait to meet the new additions.
