Parents Of Teen Who Died After Jumping Into Shark-Infested Waters On A Dare Speak Out

No parent should have to lose their child to something that could have been prevented. The parents of Cameron Robbins are finally speaking out about how they're doing after experiencing a loss like that when their son jumped over a cruise ship into "shark-infested" waters in the Bahamas. The 18-year-old from Louisiana was sadly acting on a dare.

In the video, you can see Cameron splashing in the dark water. There's a buoy that onlookers are yelling at him to grab, but he's seen swimming in the other direction.

Viewers of the video are speculating that a fast-swimming silvery object that appears in the video is likely a shark, so people have assumed that Cameron swam in the other direction to try to escape an attack.

The party ship remained in the area for several hours while crew attempted to find Cameron. The U.S. Coast Guard also attempted its own search, which they called off two days later after searching over 325 square miles.

Cameron's parents are utterly heartbroken by the tragedy. “We are just mourning our son right now,” his mother, Shari Robbins, told the New York Post during an interview. "We appreciate everyone's support," the father, William Robbins, added.

Cameron was adopted by Shari and William shortly after his birth in Abilene, Texas. In his obituary, they wrote, “Cameron Crossley Robbins was a beloved grandson, son, brother and friend. He was lost at sea after being reported missing off the coast of Athol Island in the Bahamas on the evening of May 24."

“He was a tough player, battling back from multiple injuries, known to pitch through separated shoulders and broken hands,” it continued. As a baseball player, he was a three-year varsity letterman in high school.

The family has been overwhelmed with calls since Cameron's disappearance, according to New York Post. “We appreciate you calling. Maybe we will be able to talk more later," Shari also told the outlet.

Cameron's memorial service took place on June 4. Along with his parents, he is survived by his brother and sister, Cole and Cassie, two grandmothers, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
