After 11 Foster Homes, Teen Finally Finds A Forever Family

Soldier Camille and her husband already had two biological children when they decided to become foster parents. They waited patiently to see whom child services would bring them. Then they got the call that their family would be joined by a 14-year-old girl who was a bit of a problem child. On the same day they got the news that they would have a new daughter, Camille had to tell the agency that she was being deployed to Afghanistan. During that time, things spun out of control. The foster daughter, who had been removed from 11 foster homes, asked to be placed in a new one.

"She really has no reason to trust anybody. A lot of adults in her life did not have her best interest at heart," Camille says.

By the time Camille had returned home nine months later, she had been placed into three new foster homes. Camille and her husband were certain that this was their girl. They went to visit her and convinced the 14-year-old to come back.

"I push people away, and they decided they don't want me there… Sometimes I would get these random outbursts of anger," the teenager says. But Camille didn't give up on her. She endured the resistance and when the time came to adopt, it wasn't Camille's idea, it was her foster daughter who asked her if she would officially be her mom.
