Cat Defies Her Instincts To Help Abandoned Baby Birds

Think animals don't have souls? Think again!

If the Pope says it, then I believe it, but time and time again I see proof in real life, too. When the newborns in these photos were orphaned, other animals were happy to step up to the plate and help out.

However, the researchers at Phoenix Biogenic decided to put animal instincts to the test to see whether or not their hearts were bigger than their hunger. Although the experiment was apparently filmed back in 2003, the video just recently surfaced online. In it we see a cat roaming around when she hears three abandoned baby chicks crying out for help. With no mother in sight, the terrified little newborns must be starving and terrified by the large predator, but instead of turning into lunch for the feline, she does something incredible.

The cat suddenly defies its predatory nature and starts feeding the baby birds, taking over as their new mom. Although we don't know how the neurobiologists got the cat stop recognizing the crying days-old birds as prey, I believe that the cat's motherly instincts had something to do with it.
