For most of us, we only think about colors when we're creating something artistic or picking out our clothes for the next day. For a little boy named Cayson Irlbeck, colors mean so much more.
The fourth-grader was born color-blind and never had the opportunity to see colors correctly. For him, the world was a bit dimmer and pretty jumbled compared to what the average person's eyes see.
One day, he received a very special pair of Enchroma glasses that cost $300. The price tag might be hefty, but you can't really put a price on eyesight, can you?
He has trouble differentiating between blue, purple, and red. He and his parents hoped that these new glasses would offer Cayson a little hope while he dealt with being color-blind.
In the video below, posted on March 2, 2017, Cayson's parents take their camera and start filming their son as he places the all-black glasses on his head and over his eager eyes. Once they're on, it's like Cayson is in an entirely different world.
He leans forward in disbelief as a smile grows on his face. He can't believe how much brighter everything is. He runs over to his dad, Aaron Irlbeck, and completely loses it. As tears flow down his face, Cayson wraps his arms around his dad, who cradles him and starts crying too.
"I knew right away that something had changed. I noticed how bright everything was," the color-blind boy explains. "It was so amazing. It was so colorful and it's kind of weird because I didn't, like, I've never seen those colors before, but I kind of knew what they were. I don't know, it was just awesome."
