15 Celebrities You Forgot Committed Awful Crimes

Many of us like to believe that our favorite actors and musicians are just as perfect when the cameras turn off as they are when they're in the spotlight. Unfortunately, though, that hasn't always proven to be true. Sure, there are plenty of stars who seem to be angels on Earth, just like these celebs who worked together to make a video protesting gun violence. But many others have criminal records that you probably wouldn't expect.

It can be hard to watch stars we once loved turn into criminals. I know I wasn't the only one who was bummed out when child star Lindsay Lohan took a turn for the worse! But the good news is that many stars have managed to turn their lives around, and it seems that a few of them have actually improved their behavior since they became famous. Just like these stars who look completely unrecognizable in their high school yearbook photos, you'd never guess that some of the world's most talented criminals turned out to be the family-oriented and charitable celebrities they are today!

Check out these celebrity criminals you might have forgotten were put in handcuffs at one point. Some of them aren't too surprising, but my jaw dropped to the floor when I learned about number 9! Is your favorite star on this list?

Don't forget to SHARE this post with all your friends so they can learn the truth about their favorite stars!

1. Jay-Z

Today, he's one of the biggest rappers in the industry (and married to Beyonce), but when he was twelve, Jay-Z shot his older brother. Luckily, the bullet struck his shoulder and allowed his brother to survive, and Jay-Z even rapped about the incident in his song, You Must Love Me. Then, in 1999, the entertainer stabbed music producer Lance "Un" Rivera during a dispute. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years' probation.

2. Khloe Kardashian

Even though the incident was shown on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, many people still forget that Khloe spent some time in jail for a DUI in 2007. The crazy thing is, she wouldn't have even gone to jail if she hadn't violated her probation by skipping out on alcohol education classes and her roadside cleanup community service. The reality star was originally supposed to spend thirty days in a cell, but thanks to a crowded jail (the same one that housed Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton), she only had to spend three days behind bars.

3. Matthew Broderick

In 1987, this actor was driving around Ireland with his Ferris Bueller's Day Off co-star and then-girlfriend Jennifer Grey when he accidentally swerved into the oncoming lane and struck a car containing a 28-year-old woman and her mother. Broderick and Grey both suffered treatable injuries, but the women in the other car were killed as a result of the crash. Broderick was originally sentenced to five years in prison for death by dangerous driving, but the charges were then reduced to careless driving, which led to the actor only having to pay $175 for the deaths of two innocent people.

4. Tim Allen

It's hard to believe that the man who voices Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear was a drug trafficker, right? The Home Improvement actor was sentenced to life in prison after being caught with over 650 grams of cocaine in 1978. But he got off with just a two-year sentence after giving out the names of other people he was involved with.

5. R. Kelly

R. Kelly is quite possibly the creepiest rapper out there. In 1996, he was accused of having sex with a then-15-year-old five years earlier. He paid the victim $250,000 to settle out of court, but that wasn't the end for this entertainer. He was accused years later of having sex with multiple underage girls on camera, but was acquitted by a jury after the case took over six months to go to trial.

6. Mark Wahlberg

The star of The Fighter and Lone Survivor might be a family man today, but he was a pretty terrible person when he was a teenager. At age 15, he was caught throwing rocks and shouting racial slurs at two separate groups of African-American children. Later, when he was 16, he beat up two Vietnamese men on the same day while again shouting racial slurs. He was charged with attempted murder, but then pleaded guilty to assault. Although he was supposed to spend two years behind bars, the actor ended up serving only 45 days in prison.

7. Mike Tyson

He's a boxing legend, and perhaps it's his skill in the ring that has led so many people to forget that Tyson is also a convicted rapist. He is said to have convinced a then-18-year-old woman to come to a party he was having, only to pin her down and rape her in his hotel room. The boxer was supposed to spend six years in prison, which was to be followed by four years of probation, but ultimately, he was released after just three years of being incarcerated.

8. Christian Slater

Slater gained many fans after his performance in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but the law definitely isn't crazy about him. The actor was convicted of drunk driving and assault in 1989, and then in 1994, he tried to board a commercial airplane with a loaded gun in his suitcase. But Slater wasn't done yet. He also assaulted his then-girlfriend and a police officer in the same year, and then in 2005, he sexually assaulted a woman on the street.

9. Hugh Grant

In 1995, the Bridget Jones' Diary star was arrested for having sexual relations with a Hollywood prostitute. He was fined $1,180 and ordered to complete an AIDS education program. Grant later joked about the incident on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and made no excuses for what he did.

10. Lil' Kim

In 2001, the rapper, who was featured on the hit song, "Lady Marmalade," was convicted of perjury after lying to a grand jury about her friends' involvement in a shooting. The crime occurred because of a lengthy feud between Kim and fellow rapper Foxy Brown. Lil' Kim went to jail for a year and was fined $50,000 for her crime.

11. Matthew McConaughey

The crimes that the star of Dallas Buyers' Club and Magic Mike committed aren't nearly as heinous as many others on this list, so maybe that's why most people aren't aware that Matthew McConaughey was once arrested. He was found to have marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his home when police responded to a neighbor's call complaining about a commotion coming from the actor's home. But the craziest part was that McConaughey was stark naked and playing the bongo drums when the cops showed up. The actor was arrested, but later released because the police didn't have a warrant when they entered his home.

12. Kobe Bryant

In 2003, this basketball star was arrested after he was accused of sexual assault by a hotel employee in Colorado. Bryant insisted that although the two had engaged in sexual activity in his hotel room, it was all consensual. The victim refused to testify in court, which led to the case being dropped, but Bryant later settled with the woman in a civil suit.

13. Will Smith

When the Men In Black star was twenty years old, he was involved in an assault by a group of men that almost left their victim blind. Smith spent one night in jail, and the numerous charges against him were later dropped.

14. Charlie Sheen

It's pretty hard to forget that the Two and a Half Men star had some pretty strange moments in the late 2000's, but bizarre quotes and incoherent ramblings were by far the mildest things he did during that time. He pleaded guilty to assaulting his third wife, Brooke Mueller,  in 2009. Sheen was said to have pinned his wife to the bed while gripping her throat and holding a knife. Mueller said the actor also threatened to kill her if she told anyone what happened.

15. Bill Gates

All the way back in 1975, Bill Gates was arrested for driving without a license. By this time in his life, he was already well on his way to becoming one of the richest people in the world, and he was able to pay off his bail without any issues. The good news is that his crime was pretty mild as far as illegal activities are concerned, and with all the work he's done for technology and the countless dollars he's donated to charity, I think he's definitely made up for it.
