The CEO of Kyte Baby is facing some heavy scrutiny after being exposed for how she handled one of her employee's remote work request. Marissa Hughes recently adopted a son who was hospitalized in the NICU after his birth in December. After Marissa's story went viral, where she revealed that her request had been denied and she had later been fired, Ying Liu, the founder and CEO of the company, took to TikTok to issue an apology to her former employee. And that didn't go over well for her, at all.
"Hey guys, it's Ying. I wanted to hop on here to sincerely apologize to Marissa for how her parental leave was communicated and handled in the midst of her incredible journey of adoption and starting a family," the CEO and mother of five said in the video. "I have been trying to reach out to her to apologize directly as well."
She continued on to say that the company prides itself in being a "family-oriented company." She also said that she plans to review the company's human resource policy and procedures due to the incident. But her initial video received a lot of backlash of not being genuine and lacking empathy.

In a follow-up video, the CEO admitted that the first video was scripted. She also revealed that she was the one who denied Marissa's request to work remotely. "When I think back, this was a terrible decision," she said. "I was insensitive, selfish, and was only focused on the fact that her job had always been done on-site and I did not see the possibility of doing it remotely."
