Abused Bear Finally Goes Home After Years Of Torture

Cholita, a bear from Peru that suffered years of horrible abuse, is finally getting the happy ending she deserves.

The spectacled bear was returned to “a specially-built habitat in the Amazon” at the Taricaya Ecological Reserve in Peru and will be in good care for the rest of her life, according to a report from the organization that saved her, Animal Defenders International (ADI).

The 25-year-old animal was mistreated for years and shut in a small cage at a circus, much like the rescued lion from Brazil who was taped feeling grass for the first time.

Cholita’s front claws were removed and her teeth were broken. She’s also completely bald because of the mistreatment.

“She has alopecia because of stress and this often happens to female spectacled,” ADI wrote on Facebook.

The ADI’s veterinary team said it’s possible for the bear’s hair to grow back as long as her skin hasn’t thickened too much.

"Some of her skin has thickened, but we have to wait and see. Certainly the stress is gone, she is in a lovely place and she does have a little hair. So we are hoping. Meanwhile she continues to be beautiful and dignified every day,” ADI added.

Despite her lack of hair, however, Cholita seems happier than ever as you'll see in the video below.
