Mikhail Sadovnikov was a mathematician before he became an incredible artist known worldwide for his unconventional performance and visual art hybrids.
In this amazing video, the Russian ceramics artist draws a seemingly endless series of patterns with wet clay on a spinning potter's wheel. The video may be 15 minutes long, but it's incredibly mesmerizing to watch his incredible process in motion.
All he uses to create these fascinating illusions is his hands and a couple of simple tools. Sadovnikov uses his mathematic expertise to transform the potter's wheel into an array of stunning and perfectly symmetrical designs.
It's so amazing to me that with only a quick twist of his wrist, Sadovnikov creates one completely unique pattern after another. Even though the beautiful designs only last for a few seconds, the constant metamorphoses is completely mind-blowing and keeps getting better over time.
However, if you're worried the full 15 minutes will leave you in a completely hypnotic state, I've added some equally mesmerizing gifs below…just TRY to keep your eyes away!
