Sometimes I feel like the stack of dishes in the sink never, ever gets smaller. Even when I do the dishes, run the dishwasher, and put them all away in the cabinets, it still feels like the stack is just as high as (if not higher than) it was before.
I really shouldn't complain, though; compared to the folks who work in the kitchens of restaurants everywhere, I have it pretty easy.
When I was a teenager, I worked in the kitchen of a restaurant washing dishes. And let me tell you — those things never stop coming in. It's just a constant cycle to get them clean as fast as possible.
The man in this video, however, seems to have figured out the trick to getting a massive amount of plates clean in an extremely timely manner.
As you can see in the video, he has a huge stack of plates to clean next to him when he starts assembling them in the washing trays. But, in just a minute's time, he has them all cleaned, sanitized, and stacked and ready for the kitchen staff to take away and use for new diners.
His system involved grabbing a smaller stack of plates at once and letting them cascade out of his hands and into the washing tray almost like a line of dominoes falling over.
Now, let's clarify his accomplishment as well: Yes, these are probably not porcelain or easily breakable plates. My guess is that they're a harder material used in something like a cafeteria. Also, he has a huge hose and an industrial dishwasher that gets the job done quickly.
But none of that takes away from this man's skill. For him to be able to accurately drop those plates in the tray so quickly, and do it all with the rhythm of a fine jazz musician, is extremely impressive. It's also kind of hypnotic to watch.
Digg.com did the math on the video and it appears that each tray holds about 20 dishes and he cleans and finishes 5 trays in about a minute. That means this man is able to clean 100 dishes in just about a minute's time. That, folks, is someone I want working in my kitchen!
