In my 25 years working as a writer, editor, and dabbling in other things, I’ve been blessed to work with a lot of truly wonderful people. Some even graduated to outside-of-work friends that have stayed in my life for years. Nevertheless, I couldn’t imagine how I would feel if I discovered one of them was secretly and unknowingly my biological parent.
Nathan Boos and Bob Egaro found themselves in that exact situation. The two had been working alongside each other for two years when Boos’ adoptive mother realized something monumental while looking at his Facebook page, according to LADBible.
She pointed out his colleague, Egaro, and broke the news to him that he was actually his biological father.
Boos messaged Egaro and asked him if he knew his biological mother’s name, and Egaro confirmed she was his ex-wife. Egaro admitted they gave up Boos for adoption because of financial hardships.
“Back then I wasn’t much of a dad. His biological mom had chosen the adoptive parents,” Bob explained, according to CBS Chicago. He believes she let distant family of hers adopt him.
“It’s still kind of a shock. There are days I’m not sure exactly what to say or how to act. He is my son, but we didn’t have that father-son relationship growing up. We became working partners before we knew what we really were,” he admitted, per LADBible.
“We’re just taking one day at a time,” Boos added. “One mile at a time, as we say.”
The two both reportedly acknowledged that they have gained a sense of peace from the ordeal and plan on building upon their friendship.
