I wasn’t around in the '50s or '60s. In fact, I wasn’t even a sparkle in my parents’ eyes at that point — but that time period is definitely crystalized in my parents’ memories. In the '50s, my baby boomer parents were watching “Rocky and Bullwinkle,” getting Jujubes stuck in their teeth, and playing with Army men and hula hoops. In the '60s, they were more concerned with this new band called The Beatles, watching a man walk on the moon, and my mom was definitely mastering the fine art of straightening her hair with an actual iron.
I know these things because my parents speak about this era so affectionately and vibrantly that, sometimes, I feel like I experienced those memories with them. I even know the 1950s Nestle's jingle — complete with the noise of the dog puppet’s mouth shutting closed after “Chooooocolate!” — because my parents sang it around the house so often when I was a kid.
So watching the below video compilation of a few classic and iconic 1950s commercial jingles was a treat as sweet as nostalgic desserts like pineapple upside down cake, cherry Jell-O, or banana pudding. Some of these iconic products I even remember from my own childhood.
