Unique Look At Vintage Cooking Tips For Food Presentation From 1957

Ever since I was a kid, I've loved looking at my mom's old Betty Crocker cookbook. Every page of those technicolor meals varied from mouth-watering to, well, mind-boggling. Sometimes it can be really difficult to fathom how anyone actually ate several of the stranger concoctions, but it's still fun to look at and imagine yourself living in the bygone eras.

Of course, most of those recipes come with a dash of old-fashioned thinking, too. You know, that now largely outdated idea that a wife is the only one who should set foot in the kitchen, at least as far as any food prep goes. Just look at any old commercial from the 1950s or '60s and you'll see what I'm talking about! It's silly now, but that really must have been frustrating for some women back in the day.

That's why I love this vintage video of a husband and wife team who tackled their culinary skills together! Fanny and Johnnie Cradock both rolled up their sleeves to share a few of their favorite tips in this clip from 1957. Focusing on food presentation, the duo definitely shows off some pretty strange ideas when it comes to how much butter a small slice of bread needs in their first tip. Even Paula Deen herself might say, "Wow, that's a lot of butter!"

While I appreciate their creativity with the hard-boiled egg, I think their best tip is definitely with the oranges at the very end. It totally stands the test of time!
