A Single Dad Broke The Law To Save His Infant Son. Did This Cop Do The Right Thing?

Police officers have one of the most difficult jobs in the world…and it isn't just because they are put in dangerous situations and have to deal with awful criminals every day.

As a cop, you are required to use your best judgement in making arrests. Sometimes they make the wrong decision and let a criminal go, and other times they arrest people when it's unmerited. These stressful decisions can often haunt a cop long after the arrest, but when you trust your gut and do the right thing, it can last even longer.

For London, KY Police Officer Justin Roby, not arresting a man who broke the law proved to be a decision he'll never forget. When Roby was called to a local grocery store, he learned of a man who was caught shoplifting a can of baby formula.

The man was a single father and he was stealing the can to feed his six-month-old baby. Heartbroken by the man's story and realizing that arresting him would do more harm than good, Officer Roby truly lived up to his vow of protecting and serving his community.

Roby bought the man baby formula and sent him on his way. "Behind the uniform, I’m a human being and I’m a person out in this community just like any of them. I have a little boy. I’m a father just like that gentleman was," Roby told WKYT.
