It's the holiday season, which means many people are getting into the giving spirit. Helping others is something we should all do, especially at this time of year.
No matter where you live, chances are there are homeless people in your area.
Unfortunately, people everywhere fall on hard times, which means that there will be homeless people in every city (even if you don't realize it). Many people want to help the homeless folks in their community but don't know how.
Well, one police officer is showing people a great way to help struggling or underprivileged people.
Deputy Ken See, who works for the Bartow County Sheriff's Office in Georgia, recently made his way to a McDonald's truck stop for breakfast. What he did there astounded the other people in line.
James Lifsey, who had also stopped in for breakfast, was so amazed by what Deputy Ken See did that he snapped a picture and shared the image on Facebook.
James shared the story on the page Love What Matters, where it got a lot of attention.
In just three days, the post had over 7,500 reactions and almost 550 shares.
James wrote:
I was standing in line at the McDonald’s (Pilot Truck Stop) in Cartersville, GA placing my order, when this deputy and a man (who appeared to be homeless), walked in and got in line behind me.
After I ordered, I stepped back and watched the homeless man place his order. The deputy then asked if he wanted anything for later, as well. The man declined.
The deputy then paid for the man's meal, told him to, 'Have a good day and be safe!' and then proceeded to leave.
To make sure I had seen everything correctly, I stopped the deputy and asked, ‘Did you just pay for that man’s meal?’
'Yes', he replied modestly, as if it were just another Thursday morning to him. I shook his hand and told him, 'Thank you!' and watched him leave.
To the deputy, it was Thursday morning, nothing more— just another day on duty.
To the man, you could see the gratitude in his eyes. To him, it was another day to get by, to survive… And to hope for the kindness of a stranger.
Today, that kind stranger was a deputy with the Bartow County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office. I don’t know who he was, but I thank him for his random act of kindness, and for being a fine example of a good person.
Somehow, I don't think that random act of kindness was very random at all.
I feel that, in his case, it was just Thursday… Another day to serve the needs of others.
Thank you again, Sir.
People who saw the post were blown away by the deputy's actions.
One woman wrote, "That is pure Human kindness!! I applaud him!! An act that has been so lost in this world!! Thankyou [sic] for that of your duty to serve and protect!!"
Another woman wrote, "Very kind gesture, for sure, but I was also humbled by the homeless man not taking anything extra for later."
A man commented, "If we all just looked out for each other a little more like this guy did what a better place the world would be."
