9-Year-Old Girl Jumps to Safety With The Help of Cops

Police officers often have a chance to change a life through their jobs. Whether it’s through reuniting a lost child with his or her parent, or with a random act of kindness like helping out some neighborhood kids, it’s nice to hear stories of the positive influence they have.

This week, three police officers made an incredible impact by saving the life of a young child stuck in a burning building. They didn’t do it alone, though: the brave little girl had to leap for her life.

In a parent’s worst nightmare, a 9-year-old girl was stranded on the third floor of a burning apartment complex in Mahwah, NJ. When neighbors pointed her out to the police, they quickly reacted. Three officers stood on the ground beneath the balcony where the girl was standing — which was 25 feet above them — and urged her to jump into their open arms. She bravely did just that, falling back into one officer’s arms.

“That young girl jumped into the arms of an angel,” Mahwah Mayor Bill Laforet told CBS New York.

Miraculously, no one — not even the young girl — was hurt during the fire. The three officers all refuse to take hero credit for their act, insisting that she is the one to praise in this story.
