Couple Goes Out For A Midnight Meal And Ends Up Leaving The Restaurant With Someone’s Baby

Date nights are an important part of keeping a relationship strong. It is vital that couples take the time to reconnect with each other in the middle of our hectic modern lives. One California couple was doing just that and got more than they bargained for.

This unsuspecting couple was out at Chris N Eddy’s in Hollywood located on Sunset Boulevard. At around midnight an unnamed woman approached them and surrendered her 1-month-old baby. She told the couple she could not care for the child anymore. This shocked couple gave the baby over to the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The baby was taken to a local hospital out of an abundance of caution. The child was given a clean bill of health. The Beverly Hills Police Department turned the case over to the Los Angeles Police Department because it was their jurisdiction.

A California law allows a baby to be safely surrendered at designated locations, such as a public or private hospital or a fire station. Legal action will not be taken against a parent or individual with lawful custody who follows this protocol. It is unknown at this time if the unidentified woman fits this description, but the LAPD is investigating this.

The Safely Surrendered Baby Law was signed into law in January 2006 but was first created in January 2001. The law has been effective in decreasing the number of abandoned newborns. For example in 2002, 25 babies were surrendered to the state as compared to 2010 and on, five or fewer babies were handed over.
