It was a life-long love affair for Jeanette and Alexander Toczko. According to their son, Richard, "They were boyfriend and girlfriend when they were 8 years old."
Married in 1940, the couple moved to San Diego in the early '70s. Alexander, a World War II veteran, recently broke his hip. His health quickly declined and his family knew they had little time left. They couldn't help but be reminded of the couple's bittersweet wish — to pass on in their own bed holding hands and in each other's arms.
Hospice brought a bed into the Toczkos home for Alexander and place it next to his beloved wife. "She kept asking us, 'What is today, what is today?' We said it was June. She said it's June 29th, and June 29th is their 75th wedding anniversary," said Aimee. It was always Jeanette's dream to make it to 75 years with Alexander.
The family brought balloons and flowers to their beds. After a short celebration, the family left the couple alone. Doctors were stunned to discover that that's when Alexander passed away in Jeanette's arms. She hugged him and she said, "See this is what you wanted. You died in my arms and I love you. I love you, wait for me, I'll be there soon." About 24 hours later, Jeanette passed away. By the time I heard this couple's story, I was covered in goosebumps.
The Toczkos were buried Monday morning at Miramar National Cemetery. Please help us remember this incredible pair who stood the test of time, and SHARE this video with your friends on Facebook!
