Craig Lewis worked hard, after, after saving money for three years, he had enough to buy a mortgage for a new home.
However, that's not how he spent the money. Instead, Lewis did the unthinkable: He quit his job.
He had a nice cushy job as a marketing manager in Atlanta but he wasn't exactly fulfilled.
“I worked my a** off for three years and saved a lot, enough to put a mortgage on a house, but I decided that was too conventional — I want to see the world!” He told BuzzFeed.
Many people are quitting their corporate jobs to adopt a simpler lifestyle so that they can finally connect with people. Noelle Hancock quit her high paying job to sell ice cream cones on an island and she'll tell you she is much happier.
Lewis didn't sell ice cream, but he did change lives of others by spreading his joy. He volunteered all over Africa and travelled the world, almost entirely by himself, although he wasn't alone.
“I pretty much met all of the people along the way. I had a mate with me for about seven months of the trip, and the rest just new friends I met at hostels, couch surfing, or friends of friends!”
In total Lewis visited 36 countries. What he discovered was pretty incredible.
“I’ve learned there are amazing people in this world, and that no place is ever as bad as anyone says it is," he said.
